St Helens Through The Lens – An Exhibition

In 2016 a Heritage Lottery Fund grant was awarded to St Helens Local History & Archives (St Helens Library Service) to digitise, preserve, share and explore a collection of over 3000 glass plate negatives discovered in a pet shop in the 1980s. The photographs were taken by Geoff Williams of Central Studios and included images of people, weddings, sport, events, buildings, works and more – a real snapshot of life in St Helens in the 1950s.

Artist Debbie Adele Cooper was commissioned to create a unique artwork using the glass plate negatives as inspiration. Debbie’s practice revolves around public engagement, photography, sound and light. Her artwork is on display for you to view and discuss.
